i just discovered keith urban. am not really a country music fan, but i can make some exceptions for his music. at least this one particular song for sure.
turns out he's an aussie. (kiwi-born actually) living in the heart of america. penetrating the all-american country genre. (although yes, i remember reading sometime ago that the land down under has its own version of country)
another brilliant example of the great australian amalgamation into hollywood. and i say this and not invasion (like the great british invasion of the industry) because the aussies seem to leave all behind, blend into the local scene and (perhaps conscientiously) not draw attention to their australian-ness. this might be today's sac353 lecture material talking. the australian film movement (and now i'm just exporting this to music business too) was ultimately a movement to hollywood.
cultural erasure. rather interesting.
on another contradicting note, i discovered this one-man act called gotye a couple of months ago.
amazing stuff, completely un-american-mainstream.
so, i don't know where i'm going with this post. i guess i'm just taking a break from fluid mech, and rather randomly ranting. yepp, that sounds like me.
i'll wrap this up by saying there's a lot more to the land down under than the accent, and quoting my professor who digressed during a discussion about a film: "seasons change regularly, although sometimes in michigan we wonder if spring ever will come..."
